Who we are
This policy explains how SpeedRide ("SpeedRide", "we", "us") collects and uses personal data when you use the SpeedRide rider app, the SpeedRide Driver app, our courier service and speedride.ng (together, the "Services").
The data controller is CECIVIK INTEGRATED CONCEPT LIMITED, 1332850, Prince Adekunle Ogidi Street, 77a block 18, Mama Jay B/stop Ago Bridge, Divine Estate Lagos, Nigeria. Contact us about privacy at [email protected].
We process personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the regulations of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
Data we collect
Riders
- Account details: phone number (used to sign in with a one-time code), name, and optionally your email address and profile photo.
- Trip details: pickup and drop-off addresses and coordinates, ride type, fare quoted and charged, trip times, status, and the ride ID.
- Location: your device location when you set a pickup point, and while a trip you booked for yourself is in progress (about every 20 seconds) so your driver can find you.
- Communications: messages you send your driver in the trip chat, and call connection data when you use in-app calling.
- Ratings: ratings you give drivers and ratings drivers give you.
- Saved contacts: names and numbers you save to book trips for someone else. These stay on your device.
Drivers
- Account details: phone number, name, email address and profile photo.
- Verification documents: photos of your driver's licence and vehicle registration, and your vehicle's type, model, year, colour and number plate.
- Location: your device location while you are signed in and set as available, including when the app is in the background, so we can offer you nearby trips and show riders where you are. Location sharing stops when you go offline.
- Activity: trips offered, accepted, declined and completed, earnings statistics, ratings, and availability status.
Courier customers and receivers
- Pickup and delivery addresses, package details, and the receiver's name and phone number you give us.
Everyone
- Device data: a push notification token for each device you sign in on, app version and device type.
- Crash and diagnostic data: crash reports and error logs that help us fix problems.
- Support requests: what you tell us when you contact support, report a safety issue, a lost item or a dispute.

International transfers
Our database is hosted by Google Cloud in data centres in the United States. When your data is transferred outside Nigeria, we rely on the safeguards the Nigeria Data Protection Act allows, including the contractual protections in our agreements with Google.
How long we keep it
- Account data: while your account is open, then deleted within 30 days of closure, unless we need it for a dispute or legal claim.
- Trip records and chat: [3 years] after the trip, for safety investigations, disputes and accounting.
- Driver verification documents: while you're an active driver and [1 year] after, or longer where the law requires.
- Live location for a trip: kept with the trip record; the continuous position used for matching is overwritten every few seconds.
- Crash reports: as long as our crash-reporting provider keeps them, currently up to 90 days.
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act you can:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct data that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your data, or restrict how we use it;
- object to processing based on our legitimate interests;
- ask for your data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent where we rely on it, such as background location for drivers, by changing your phone's settings or going offline.
To delete your account, use the account deletion form. For other requests, email [email protected] from the email on your account, or contact support with your phone number. We'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and our database rules only let each person read their own account and the trips they are part of. Driver verification documents can only be viewed by the driver and our review team. No system is completely secure, so tell us straight away at [email protected] if you think your account has been misused.
Children
The Services are for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly create accounts for anyone under 18. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when our practices change and show the new date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
